A Better Way to Read
OpenReading™ is a new project inspired by a reading expert’s dream to make her amazingly effective strategies for teaching reading available to everyone.
We’re motivated by the belief that all people deserve to learn to read ‒ and have fun while doing it!
The curriculum on which OpenReading™ is based has been meticulously developed over more than three decades and aligns with the latest in educational and brain research. The techniques are used in school districts and reading clinics around the country to teach children of all abilities to read, often proving more effective than leading reading programs.
The curriculum systematically helps children to “learn by doing” and involves children’s bodies, minds, and creativity to educate the whole child. It also appeals to kids with ADD and ADHD, because it uses a broad array of lively games and activities to avoid the boredom inherent in many conventional reading programs.

OpenReading™ adapts this curriculum designed for school settings into a program suitable for busy parents and other caregivers who lack the background of professional educators. Our goal is to provide an easy-to-use, online format that makes the material accessible to the non-expert.

Our Parent Training Program is ready for you to try!
The first program being offered is the Parent Training Program: Coach Your Beginning Reader. Beginning readers generally fall in the range of 3-6 years old. Additional levels will be added to this free program eventually, but folks of all ages can benefit from the foundational concepts and techniques introduced in this first offering,
When complete this program will have seven Units. We’ve started with Unit 3: Ear Training for beta testing, because it’s the missing link in most beginning reading programs. It also introduces nine OpenReading™ Sound Motions which connect letter sounds to a body movement, and make learning to read a breeze. You’ll have no problem diving right in, and you’ll marvel at how much your kid immediately enjoys and benefits from the material.
